Emil Fernández Jr. was born in Annmore (West Virginia) on March 25, 1919. He was the first son of seven brothers of the marriage formed by Emilio and Aurora Fernández, from Avilés (Asturias – Spain) and who emigrated to the US in 1917, settling in Harrison County.
​
Emil studied at Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, finishing in 1942 and enlisting in the US Navy that same year. In February 1943, he married Estelle Bottoms, already with the rank of lieutenant and stationed in Norfolk (Virginia).
​
Between 1944 and 1945, with the rank of Lieutenant, he took part in several of the decisive operations on the Pacific Front aboard the USS Windsor (APA-55), a landing troop transport ship of the VII Fleet.
​
His military career lasted until 1961 and the Emil/Estelle couple had two daughters and two sons, settling in Los Angeles, California.
​
Emil Fernández passed away on September 18, 1989.

Emil Fernández Jr nace en Annmore (West Virginia) un 25 de marzo de 1919. Primer varón de siete hermanos del matrimonio formado por Emilio y Aurora Fernández, originarios de Avilés y que emigraron a EEUU en 1917 estableciéndose en el condado de Harrison.
​
Emil cursó estudios en el Salem College en Winston-Salem, Carolina del Norte, finalizando en 1942 y alistándose en la US Navy ese mismo año. En febrero de 1943 contrae matrimonio con Estelle Bottoms, ya con la graduación de alférez y destinado en Norfolk (Virginia).
​
Entre 1944 y 1945 con la graduación de Teniente toma parte en varias de las operaciones decisivas del Frente del Pacifico a bordo del USS Windsor (APA-55), un buque de transporte de tropas de desembarco de la VII Flota.
​
Su carrera militar se prolonga hasta 1961 y el matrimonio Emil/Estelle tiene dos hijas y dos hijos, afincándose en Los Ángeles, California.
​
Emil Fernández fallece el 18 de septiembre de 1989.
