Joseph García was born on September 14, 1922 in Canton (Ohio), being the first-born of the marriage formed by Florentino García Rodríguez (Illas, 1897) and María Solar (Illas, 1896) who emigrated from Asturias in July 1920, settling in Ohio. , where Joseph and his sister Lucia would be born.

The family moved to Donora (Pennsylvania) after Maria's death on December 4, 1934. Joseph worked at American Steel & Wire until his enlistment on November 17, 1942 in the parachute forces, being assigned to Company I - 3rd Battalion - 502nd Regiment - 101st Airborne Division o may 7, 1943.

After the training period at Fort Bragg (North Carolina) the 502nd Regiment, with the rest of the 101st Division, left for England on September 4, 1943 aboard the SS Strathnaver and was located between Chilton Foliat and Denford, towns near Hungerford (Berkshire) for the next seven months.

On D-Day, the 502nd departed on C-47 Skytrains from Membury and Greenham airfields to the drop zones over Normandy, assigning this unit the mission of securing two of the Utah Beach causeways and the destruction of an coast artillery battery in St Martin de Varreville. In the following days and once all the units had been regrouped, the 3/502 was assigned to control towns such as St Come du Mont and Carentan, for which they had to secure a series of bridges defended by the 6th German Parachute Regiment, which cost them the 3rd battalion of the 502 had 67% casualties, among which would be Pvt Joseph García who would be seriously injured on June 11, being evacuated to England and later to the United States for his discharge.

Joseph would work again in the metallurgical sector in the research and development division in Monroeville. He would marry Lisa Medina on January 12, 1946 and from this marriage his children Larry, Joseph and Brenda would be born.

Joseph García died on January 27, 2011 in Chester Springs (Pennsylvania), being buried next to his wife Lisa in the Monongahela Cemetery, Washington County.
Joseph García nació el 14 de septiembre de 1922 en Canton (Ohio), siendo el primogénito del matrimonio formado por Florentino García Rodríguez (Illas,1897) y María Solar (Illas, 1896) que emigraron de Asturias en julio de 1920, afincándose en Ohio, donde nacerían Joseph y su hermana Lucia.
La familia se trasladó a Donora (Pennsylvania) tras el fallecimiento de María el 4 de diciembre de 1934. Joseph trabajó en la American Steel & Wire hasta su alistamiento el 17 de noviembre de 1942 en las fuerzas paracaidistas, siendo asignado a la Compañía I del 3º Batallon del 502 Regimiento en la 101 Division aerotransportada el 7 de mayo de 1943.
Tras el periodo de instrucción en Fort Bragg (Carolina del Norte), el 502 Regimiento con el resto de la 101 Division partió hacia Inglaterra el 4 de septiembre de 1943 a bordo del SS Strathnaver siendo acantonado entre Chilton Foliat y Denford, poblaciones cercanas a Hungerford (Berkshire) durante los siguientes siete meses.
El Dia D, el 502 partió en los C-47 Skytrain desde los aeródromos de Membury y Greenham hacia las zonas de salto sobre Normandia, asignando a esta unidad la misión de asegurar dos de las salidas de Utah Beach y destruir una batería de artillería de costa en St Martin de Varreville. Joseph, trabajaría de nuevo en el sector metalúrgico en la división de investigación y desarrollo en Monroeville. Se casaría el 12 de enero de 1946 con Lisa Medina y de este matrimonio nacerían sus hijos Larry, Joseph y Brenda.
Joseph García falleció el 27 de enero de 2011 en Chester Springs (Pennsylvania), siendo enterrado junto a su esposa Lisa en el cementerio de Monongahela, Washington County.
