Palmiro "Buddy" Tamargo was born in Tampa (Florida) on February 16, 1926, being the last of the eleven siblings of the marriage formed by Francisco Tamargo Suarez (Lago, Asturias, 1876) and María Guadalupe Carreño-Flores (Arcallana, Asturias, 1882 ).

His brother Andrés enlists on 05/09/1942 in the US Coast Guard Corps and is assigned to the Pacific. "Buddy" would do the same on 12/13/1943, also in Jacksonville, but would be assigned to an escort ship, the USS SNYDER (DE-745).

​

He embarked on May 5, 1944 at the naval base in San Diego, California and his first mission would be the escort of the convoy T.U.16.15 from San Francisco to Pearl Harbor on July 11, 1944, always with the task of tracking enemy submarines. Missions of this type will continue throughout 1944 and until the end of the war in 1945. He will remain on this ship until his discharge on May 1, 1946 with the rank of S1c V6, Seaman 1st Class (corporal).

On December 11, 1946, he married Mrs. Ophelia Langford and settled in Polk County, Florida. This relationship ended in 1949 and in his next marriage with Mrs. Dolores Tamargo they had a son.

​

Palmiro passed away at the age of 47 and his remains rest in the Asturian Center Memorial Park in Tampa (Florida).

Palmiro “Buddy” Tamargo nace en Tampa (Florida) un 16 de febrero 1926, siendo el último de los once hermanos del matrimonio formado por Francisco Tamargo Suarez (Lago, Asturias, 1876) y María Guadalupe Carreño-Flores (Arcallana, Asturias, 1882).

Su hermano Andrés se alista el 09/05/1942 en el Cuerpo de Guarda Costas de los EEUU y es destinado al Pacifico. “Buddy” haría lo mismo el 13/12/1943, también en Jacksonville, pero sería destinado a un buque de escolta, el USS SNYDER (DE-745).

​

Se embarca el 5 de mayo de 1944 en la base naval de San Diego, California y su primera misión seria la escolta del convoy T.U.16.15 desde San Francisco a Pearl Harbor el 11 de Julio de 1944, siempre con la tarea de rastrear submarinos enemigos. Las misiones de este tipo continuaran durante todo 1944 y hasta el final de la guerra en 1945. En este buque permanecerá hasta su licenciamiento el 1 de mayo de 1946 con el rango de S1c V6, Seaman 1st Class (cabo).

​

El 11 de diciembre de 1946 contrae matrimonio con Mrs. Ophelia Langford y fija su residencia en el condado de Polk, Florida. Esta relación se termina en 1949 y en su siguiente matrimonio con Mrs. Dolores Tamargo tienen un hijo.

​

Palmiro fallece a los 47 años y sus restos descansan en el Memorial Park del Centro Asturiano de Tampa.
